About Me

I am a 52 year old retired statistician and database programmer. My last job was supervising the Consumer Product Safety Risk Management System (CPSRMS, or as I liked to call it, “Crappy Mess”), a portion of which feeds into the public database on SaferProducts.gov.

These days I play Dungeons & Dragons and try to learn web programming. Playing D&D lets me live the childhood I missed because so much messed up shit was going on. I love programming, and web programming is allowing me to expand my skills into new areas.

For D&D, I am currently running One Step Beyond, a 5th edition D&D Dungeon of the Mad Mage. However, I am looking to move away from D&D due to nasty and restrictive licenses being proposed by Wizards of the Coast, the company that currently makes D&D. I’ve been playing in two Pathfinder Second Edition campaigns (one Abomination Vaults adventure path and one Agents of Edgewatch adventure path). However, despite having played many complicated RPGs in the past, I find I am no longer interested in the complexities involved with Pathfinder. So I am currently reading the Savage Worlds rules, and I have signed on to Kobold Press’s Project Black Flag play test (a response to the licensing issues I mentioned).

For web programming I am currently working on my third front end certification. I have done three projects and have two left to finish. Once that is done I plan on fiddling with some simple front end game ideas. At the same time I plan on picking up a web framework that will work well with my Python and SQL skills. Finally, I have an interesting idea for a solitaire website I want to put together.

Along the way I do as much computer programming as I can, because I really enjoy it. While I made a name for myself programming SAS at my old job, these days I mainly work in Python. I have a github account with various repos on it, including CLI games and an esoteric programming language that can make a computer program out of natural language text.
